Two-Toned Cabinets are Trending

admin

Various colors come and go as interior design preferences change. Many of these trends are fleeting and in a few years, they seem pretty silly. Two-toned cabinets are trending, but they do not seem like they’ll look very silly in the future. That’s because they can be so versatile and striking right now. There are two basic ways to achieve two-tone cabinets. You can paint individual cabinets different colors, or you can paint each cabinet two colors.

Painting Individual Cabinets

So, painting individual cabinets different colors to achieve the two-toned look works best when the cabinets are close to each other. For example, if you have rows of cabinets, you can achieve the look by alternating colors. One cabinet could be black, and then the next cabinet door could be white. Alternate those looks to create a striking pattern.

Additionally, you could paint the cabinet doors one color and the cabinets themselves a different color. If you were to do this, it’s best to keep the colors somewhat muted. Having multiple bright colors could be very striking, but it’s sometimes difficult to pair those with other furniture. For example, bright red cabinet doors with bright blue cabinets would be very striking, but difficult to match to the rest of your kitchen. If you’re going for a very bold look, however, that could be the way to go.

Most homeowners who are trending towards two-toned cabinets choose color pairs such as white and baby blue or black and gray.

Painting Cabinets Two Colors

Painting each cabinet two colors is the other way to get on the trend. To do that, you simply choose the two colors you would like. Then you decide where you would like the colors to be. Many people choose a horizontal line to run across all of their cabinets. In that case, you would simply run painter’s tape across all of the cabinets where you would like the color line to be. Paint the top one color and the bottom a different color. Alternately, you can choose different levels to create a sense of movement in the cabinets. Putting the horizontal line at different places can be very visually striking.

Lastly, you could choose a color-dipped look. To achieve that look, you would paint the entire cabinet a base color. Then you would paint a portion of the cabinet a secondary color. Put enough paint on your brush to allow it to drip a little bit, as if the cabinet has been dipped in that secondary color.

These are the two basic methods used for two-toned cabinets.
